What We Do
Healing Nest Foundation (HNF) is a non-profit Early Intervention Therapeutic Center that works to enhance coping mechanisms and impart appropriate skills to improve the living conditions for disabled children and their families and enable them to attain formal education. It specializes in working with Neuro-developmental disorders in children, such as Autism, Downs Syndrome, ADHD, learning disabilities, mental retardation, global dev. disorders and speech and hearing impairments. It was started in 2014 with an aim to build an enriching environment for children & adolescents with disabilities to help them overcome their challenges and live a life of dignity.

Early intervention childhood (EIC) program
The focus is on children (0 – 6 years) who are delayed by the normal development
framework. Proper screening and profiling is done and thus an intervention program is
tailor made for each child. Our therapists and education professionals with expertise in ASD
provides targeted understanding of the child’s need and an intervention for the early years
in the communication, behaviours, development, social skills, play, emotional, cognitive,
sensory and adaptive domains are made.
Different techniques used are as follows:
Individual Interventions: on social, pre linguistic skills and language, sensory, emotional, cognitive,
play skills and adaptive responses. Various goals within these domains are arrived at
and worked upon in sessions.
Family Based Interventions:
understanding of the parenting styles and interaction, empowering and
involving parents and careers in modification of the stimuli in all existing environments,
so as to best help the child learn, apply and consolidate the skills they are acquiring.
Our team at Healing Nest, provides specific child-centered programs developed for the under-6 age group.
Social language & communication therapy
Social language & communication therapy can be used to increase children’s understanding and compliance of the unwritten rules of social language. Social communication therapy can be individualised to cater for each child’s specific difficulties. We work closely with families and caregivers and help children develop the skills needed to communicate with others appropriately as well as can help children with social interaction and making meaningful relationships with others.
Things we help with include the following:
1. Children having difficulty with: Using their first word, communicating to you what they want, looking/eye contact with you, playing games like pat-a-cake or Peek-a-boo.
2.Toddlers having difficulty with: Following simple directions, Understanding new
words, using two words together, playing with others.
3.Preschoolers having difficulty with: Following directions or answering questions,
using sentences to talk with others, Relating to others, speaking so that others can
understand them.
4.For any child who doesn’t relate well to the people around them, Seems not to hear
well, is stuttering, you think something is not quite right.
We provide one to one sessions and group sessions as per the need and the skill set of the child. When the child comes in, an internal assessment is done to understand the child’s present
developmental milestones. A holistic plan is made to cater the need of the child.
Occupational Therapy
In our pediatric setting, therapists use their expertise to help children prepare for and perform important learning and developmental activities. This typically includes muscle
strengthening and range of motion of the hands and body, work on bilateral coordination (using two hands together), motor planning, visual perception skills, and visual motor skills.
It also includes direct practice of the task, often with adaptations or modifications of the fine motor and self care tasks (cutting, writing, tying shoes) that are difficult for the individual child.
We provide both one to one and group sessions according to the child's need.

-

Integrated Therapeutic Approach.
Neuro developmental treatment (NDT)
NDT is a hands-on treatment approach used by our team to enhance the function of children
who have difficulty controlling movement as a result of neurological challenges, such as
cerebral palsy, down syndrome, children with motor development delay, brain insult and any
other neurological dysfunction with children. Our experts properly assess and treat the variety
of neuro-motor problems experienced by these individuals and help these individuals become
as functional and independent as possible. We work collaboratively with individuals, their families
and caregivers, physicians, and other members of the rehabilitation team to develop and
implement a comprehensive treatment program for each person that is based on scientific
principles and current research.
Adolescent counseling
It is intended to help adolescents make sense of their feelings and behavior. This can include
traditional talking therapy, or can use other techniques which draw on the expressive nature of
young people- such as art therapy. These proactive and creative strategies can help an
adolescent to thrive in a counseling environment. Some of the issues we frequently work with,
are as following - School behaviour problems like Anxiety, Worry, Panic, Low self-esteem, Social
skills and issues related to peers.
Parental guidance & Counseling
Parenting can be satisfying and fulfilling. But it can also be difficult and time-consuming.
Often it is seen parents struggle managing multiple roles like providing consistent care,
professional/personal work, financial difficulties, maintaining adult relationships and then
a child who is difficult to manage. The need to manage the often called “undesired behavior”
of a child, for example: hitting, pushing, excessive running, anger, emotional breakdowns,
rigidity, emotionally absent and many others, often becomes over whelming on a parents
well-being. We believe that when a child comes at Healing Nest, the family is given the
necessary knowledge, tools, guidance, and most especially support to parents without
bias or judgment. This way, they become more fully equipped to take care of their children.
Dance movement & music therapy
Moving is good for the body and mind. The mental and emotional benefits of movement
are plentiful. The same endorphins that make you feel better when moving also help you
concentrate and sleep better, and can help you become more resilient when faced with
the mental or emotional challenges of life.
Special Education
This helps focusing on helping children with disabilities learns. In our pediatric setting,
therapists use their expertise to help children to perform important learning and
developmental activities. This typically includes muscle strengthening and range of motion.
This includes processes involving each child's planning and systematically monitored
arrangement of teaching procedures.
Preschool Program
Preschool program is specially designed to create an inclusive environment for all children. This is to help children acquire social skills and learning-related skills. We have a multidisciplinary team to cater to children with special needs and help them prepare for school readiness.
Currently we are working on the building the team and this programme is closed for the time being.
Group work (Age 2 years and up)
We believe that group work plays a major role in bridging the gap and helping them
learn day-to-day issues.
Some of the group goals:
1. Language development: This primarily includes Expressive language, which includes
eye contact, body orientation and speech. Receptive language is the other major bit
which includes listening skill, instruction following and communication
2. Pre-academic development: The focus is on the cognitive development of the child.
Some of the early learning concepts would be color concept, shapes, numbers,
alphabets, sorting, matching etc.
3. Social and emotional development: Every child needs to learn to express himself /
herself to others verbally or non verbally. Our aim would be to enhance self-confidence
and self-concept of the child and provide the child with various self-help skills to express appropriately.
4. Physical development: At an early age the child is physically developing immensely.
We would help them with gross motor difficulties, fine motor difficulties, eating
difficulties, balance coordination etc.
5. Executive functioning: The group will focus on children with Executive functioning
difficulties like: managing time, attention to a task, difficulty to focus, plan and organize,
remember details, impulsivity (inappropriate speech or behavior).
